I wish that Garmin will give us their compiler, we have a good map and more JCV drawn by Bro Edchuang (retired) ,ccwong and Benson208. Furthermore, we can release our map with JCV every week..

Since MFM has a larger JCV in compilation, having the compiler will result in the downfall of other competing mapping community (for Garmin) in Malaysia

But still, Garmin policy is to provide free maps for the first year only, and from then you must pay for updates. So there must be a separation in terms of the official Garmin JCV and MFM JCV.

IMO, MFM JCV will most probably supersede Garmin JCV, everyone will come to MFM for free updates after the first year.

Maybe MFM will also start charging based on yearly subscriptions and Garmin will get a cut?

In conclusion,

QUOTE from OncCC in 1st Post of this thread The map will always be distributed for free.
Re: MFM & Garmin Collaboration
This is great news for all Garmin users in Malaysia and Singapore.
A big thank you to OngCC, ccwong, & all mappers and contributors.
Now we can have up-to-date maps with jv in our nuvi's.
Updated both my 1460 and 2575R with MFM NT. Will test it on my way to Penang to-morrow.
Just wonder how often will Garmin update MFM NT maps since we cannot use our map with Garmin jv maps.

Map only yes for life..Map with JCV only for 1st year of device is free if updated through "official/legal" methods. If MFM get the official Compiler, then Garmin may potentially lose sales; thus the suggestion of subscription through MFM.
Unless...Garmin changes their policy then it's a win for all Malaysian with Garmin devices

Agreed 100%
(long term profit from sales of Garmin Devices in Malaysia, Brunei , Singapore & Thailand)

Re: MFM & Garmin Collaboration
Guess we all have to just watch & see whether Garmin will react more explicitly to the competition in the Asean region.
shrinking market share is no laughing matter...
However, I don't see Garmin allowing it's Map Compiler to be in the hands of third parties like MfM, though I feel there's enough geniuses in MfM who will do a much better job if the Compiler is with MfM....

Re: MFM & Garmin Collaboration
how much does it cost to purchase the compiler from Garmin?
