Hi Rona D'sara,
It has been a very hard time for us to sacrifice the handwriting input.
1) Handwriting input - able to write additional lower case Alphabets and traditional Chinese characters.
But however, maps provided do not support Chinese searching. Such as "PUDU", Chinese="半山芭". It is a total different pronunciation.
Even X8.5 or X9 nowadays do not support lower case letter example: Capital "A" = Lower "a". But users are still able to use Capital Letters, Symbols and also Numbers.
2) Chinese and lower case letter only able to be used inside Save to Favourites. Other than that, handwriting input is nothing more.
3) Whereas, Thai input also comes with displaying the whole Thailand map to Thai wording by changing the interface to Thai.
4) A lot of our customers went to Thailand by using our old PAPAGO! GPS. But somehow, most of the signboards, leaflets, names of places are in Thai. Whereas our Thailand map only was in English. A lot of the locals do not speak nor write in English. There were no translator even.
5) After the launch of X8.5 onwards. Most of the users when to Thailand with no doubts because support dual languages which are English and also Thai.
6) The debate : Whether sacrifice Save Favourites with additional lower case and traditional Chinese only OR sacrifice Thai input and interface whereas for Malaysians are not difficult to drive to Thailand with own transport. Even traveling without own transportation but taxi driver will know where you really want to go.
7) We tried to get both systems inside PAPAGO! software but unfortunately it will triggered an application error. In order to prevent this error again in the future. We have taken the step by taking out the handwriting input feature.
Nevertheless, we also hope that this is not the end of handwriting input.
Hope these clarified.
