If you haven't yet decided where to stay, I can share my experience here.
I drove there for the first time in 2005 and had a shock on the tariff. I stayed at the Saowalok Hotel (N9.15466 E99.34900) - in our map is is recorded as the Sawaluk Thani Hotel. We did not pre-book so just walked in and asked if they had rooms. They allowed us to see before deciding. It was a typical 2-star hotel standard with tiled floors and attached bathrooms, twin beds, A/C and minibar. Then came the shock. The rate per night for twin occupancy including buffet dinner for 2 and buffet breakfast for 2 was (would you believe it?) Bhat 550 per room per night.
