Hi. Recently I purchased an OEM Motevo 2-din GPS DVD Player unit for my Honda CRV, which comes with Papago v8.5 GPS. I've been using the Papago GPS for a few months now, and generally it is a good product, but there are a few things which I would like to complaint about it:
1. GPS voice navigation disrupts music and audio - In normal operation, when you use the GPS and the radio at the same time, when the GPS voice navigation appears, it will automatically mute the radio so that the voice navigation can come on. Most cases, this is fine. But the problem is, when I put the volume of GPS down to zero (essentially muting the GPS), when I listen to the radio or watch movie, the music and the audio would still be muted by the GPS when the GPS was supposed to say the voice navigation, even though there is no voice navigation coming from the GPS. So that leaves me with a lot of intermittent silences when listing to music or audio from movies. My suggestion - when the user mutes the GPS, the music and audio should not be disrupted. Or better still, do a "dual channel" audio, where the GPS voice navigation can come on with disrupting the music/audio i.e. both will be heard at the same time.
2. Confusing voice navigation - For example, the GPS would say "At the junction turn left, at the junction turn right". I think what the GPS wanted to tell me is "At the junction turn left, at the next junction turn right". This makes more sense, but the current voice navigation can be confusing sometimes. My suggestion - just change/tweak the English algorithm a bit so that the voice navigation makes more sense. In the example I just gave, just need to add the word "next" in between the two directions.
3. Voice navigation too talky, and too many repetition - Sometimes the GPS voice navigation would talk non-stop for almost 1 and half minutes non-stop. It would go "Keep left. At the junction turn left, at the junction turn left, at the junction turn right, keep left"..and so on. One of my passenger commented "Wow, your GPS wont stop talking". My suggestion - keep the voice navigation to a minimum, and no need to repeat some of the things many times in quick succession.
4. No way to stop navigation except exit - I'm not sure if it's just me, but I have not found a way to stop a navigation except to Exit the software. If I set a destination, then halfway I decided I wanted to stop the navigation to that destination and instead just drive with the GPS in Navi mode, there is no way I could do that. I would have to Exit the GPS, and reload the GPS again. My suggestion - put a "Stop Navigation" button or feature somewhere in the main menu.
5. Slow / laggy software - Everytime I pressed a button or menu in the GPS, it takes a solid one or two seconds before the screen changes or the GPS does what it supposed to do. Even typing at the on-screen keyboard has this 1-2 seconds lag. It can be quite annoying. My suggestion - Optimize the software so that it is more responsive. Make sure there is no lag when user presses the buttons or menu items.
Well, those are my complaints and suggestions for improvements. I hope you can forward my complaints and feedback above to the software design team or the relevant personnel who can do something about it, so that these can be addressed these in the next software update. I think Papago is a great GPS, and it has huge potential to be the best GPS navigation system, just need to make few minor improvements to the software.
