A tri-axial compass advantage over a regular compass is that you don’t have to hold it level when navigating.


that's great! but why the price is same with oregon 300? .. i read a review from gpsfix, it only can be used with nimh battery, no alkaline battery type is mentioned on garmin page.

IMHO, may be a marketing decision to phase out the 300 as the 550 address the problem of the poor screen readability :-k Besides the screen, 3 axis compass, camera, 10x more saved tracks capability, they are identical.

Nuvi does not have ability to provide a start up message but you can change the startup wall paper screen. You can create a JPEG picture with a custom wordings and use this as startup.

Time is preset by GPS. You can only change the time zone.

Thanks for your reply. Sorry for the misunderstanding. But what I meant is the time taken to display the welcome message. Can we make it shorter or disable it on Nuvi unit?
