Re: How to delete MSM POIs from Nuvi255W

Postby AW* » Wed Jun 10, 2009 4:14 pm

Hi

My nuvi started "life" with preloaded MSM maps and its POIs. now i'm using MFM maps and POIs exclusively, i find the customised MSM road alert POIs (like speed trap and red light camera) to be redundant as well as inaccurate

can anyone tell me how i can delete them without affecting MFM customised POIs?

:tq: in advance

Just delete *.GPI files in \Garmin\Poi folder.

Just delete *.GPI files in \Garmin\Poi folder.

First, Backup MFM custom POI, then Delete all .GPI like bro dvpro mentioned above. and insert backup MFM custom POI at same location..done

HI bro dvpro and fauzee

i've done that, backed up the files in garmin\poi folder then deleted all gpi files in garmin\poi folder then copied back MFM gpi files into my nuvi.

but when i tried a simulation (gps off mode), i still get a MSM speed trap alert. i checked the custom POIs feature and the list of msm traffic alerts are still there (can differentiate them from MFM's cos MFM has "MFM" in the POI names).

:-k did i do it correct? or are the msm traffic pois somehow embedded into the device somewhere? any ideas how else can i do it?

It is possible that the data is located in 2 diff memory. 1 in your sd card & 1 in your device memory. pls delete data in both memory

hi bro

thanks for the quick response :tq:

i don't use a memory card. all are on my nuvi's main memory. so i don't think this is the concern.

i had thought about these msm traffic alert POIs as being intergrated in MSM map but the odd thing is i'm not using MSM map (although it is still sitting in my main memory), i just don't select MSM map that's all, so it shouldn't be msm map conflicting with my mfm map.

hmm, sorry to sound so "duh" but am really clueless :ko: :ko: :ko: on this..

here's screen captured of my files backup before and after deletion/paste-back.

1) here are the content of my Garmin folder and garmin\poi folder before deletion

2) contents of the POI folder within the garmin\poi folder (for some reason installing MFM customised POIs created this POI within a POI folder)

3) contents of garmin\poi folder after deletion of *.gpi files and copied over mfm poi files

hi bro

i just checked my backup files. i only installed MFM fully on my nuvi on 25/05/09. saw my own backup record dated 24/40/09 when i was still using mxm map and wanted to try mfm customised poi (release dated 23/04/09). realised that with mxm map usage (and even their POIs), there's no POI folder. :-? :-? :-?

OI folder was only created when i downloaded MFM customised POIs file on 24/04/09.

here's a screen capture of my backup pre installation of MFM customised POIs and MFM map, backup done on 24/4/09:

:ko: :ko: :ko: :ko:

your help would be much appreciated :prayer:

thomashley,

Can you do a search for *.gpi file in all folders on your device. Maybe it is hidden somewhere else.

Just bought a 255W from UK. Loaded MFM map and running smoothly. Would it be possible to copy the file from a local 255W. Just transfer the whole file from the local 255W into my 255W.

Pls advice . Thanks : :frus:
