i also noticed that a file is missing : position.gpx. it was there prior to my firmware update and now it is no longer there. should i also reinstate this file?

thanks

If you'd like to revert to previous Favorites list, it is sufficient to replace only Current.gpx.

Position.gpx is the location automatically saved where you had taken Nuvi off the mount (only for Nuvis that support Garmin Locate, for other Nuvis that do not support this feature, Position.gpx is the last location saved when it went into USB drive mode).

hi bro dvpro

oh gosh i'm sunk! my favourite POIs still missing even after i copied over the previous current.gpx file!

garmin had this statement at their website's instruction for updating the firmware (hence i backup my gpx folder)
Please back up the GPX folder on your nüvi® 255W Sing/Mal onto your PC in case of the waypoints getting missing during the download and make sure your unit can supply enough battery power for the update(3 cells or above).

but they never mention if the waypoints (favourites) really went missing, how to get it back!

any ideas?

will firmware update include POis also? i have yet to update the other garmin map update (as i'm not using them now).

Sorry, the only way to revert is if you have backed up GPX folder as per Garmin's advice. You must've done something wrong when performing the back up. And it's also a good idea verifying the backed up GPX before performing the update. You can do so by opening GPX in Mapsource.

Alternatively, to backup your Favorites into Mapsource and save it in PC, is to use Mapsource's Receive From Device feature.

The firmware update is just a software update for hardware, nothing to do with maps, pois, etc.

hmm, i did backup gpx folder, but not through mapsource. i don't know how to do that, just copy the whole thing via windows explorer using copy and paste.

thanks for the suggestion will consider that but i will also try to figure out where i went wrong and then to share here

thanks so much for your help :tq:

Can you someone help me understand the hierarchy of files in the Garmin?

Yesterday I downloaded MFM 1.63 and put that as gmapsupp.img in internal memory. When I checked "Map Info", I have "GMapTool All", "MFM POI v1.63" and "MFM Road POI v1.63". All were checked

Today I added the SLA-Sing maps (I presume with v1.62) and stored that under the name gmapsupp.img on the SD card. On "Map Info" I have all the above items, plus one new item "Singapore Land Authority/EastGear". All are checked.

My questions:

1. What are the differences between MFM POI v1.63 and MFM Road POI v1.63? I unchecked one or both and didn't see any obvious difference.

2. Which map rev do I have on the screen, 1.62 or 1.63? I think it should be 1.63 because that is on internal memory, but could it be 1.62 because that is combined with the SLA data? Is SLA just "overlaid" on top of the "base map" or is it embedded into the map?

3. When I search for a Singapore street address (for example Republic Boulevard), I can choose either country "Singapore" or country "Singapore SLA/Post Code", and it comes up fine on both. Are they on the same map, or is the first on 1.63 and the second on 1.62?

Thank you in advance.

MFM POI map is MFM Custom Icons for POIs, these icons replaces the normal POIs icon in map, examples are Shell and Maybank icons. MFM Road POI map is POIs for street names, searchable via Where to? > POI > Spell Name, an alternative to Where to? Address.

Current SLA/MFM comes with MFM v1.62, since you have both MFM/SLA v1.62 and MFM v1.63 in Nuvi, only MFM v1.63 is shown, as well as the SLA portion of the SLA/MFM v1.62 map.

"Singapore SLA/Post Code" is the result of having SLA/MFM v1.62 map in Nuvi. As for normal address search, data from MFM v1.63 is used.

Thank you. If I may, 2 follow-up questions.

How is it determined that MFM v1.63 is shown? Because it's in internal memory and takes priority over SD, or because of higher version number, or some other reason?

If there were major revisions between 1.62 and 1.63, would these 2 ways of search by different "countries" produce different results, or would they be the same because both are based on 1.63?

I don't think placing in either internal or data card would make any difference, because I have mine the other way around and yet have the same result as yours. However, I'd guess it's the header date that takes priority over the other.

Can you pls rephrase the question, I don't quite get it.

Is v1.63 used for both cases of address search, one using "Singapore" as country and the other using "SLA/post code" as country?

Is the second case also based on map v1.63, or is it based on v1.62 since SLA was put together with 1.62?

No, when using "Singapore", it's using MFM v1.63. When using "SLA/post code", it's using SLA/MFM v1.62.

When using "SLA/post code", it's using SLA portion of SLA/MFM v1.62, while MFM v1.62 is ignored.
