Changing The Nuvi 3xx Battery - A Step By Step Guide

Postby moeyhc » Fri Oct 17, 2008 11:05 am

Anyone here has the experience of changing the battery in the Nuvi 3xx series GPS. My friend's unit needs battery replacement but is not cost effective to send back to Garmin. So, we are about to take a chance to do it on our own. I believe I can do it and would like to know anyone out there who has done it before. My main concern is the opening of the casing without damaging it. If you know of the procedure to open it please let me know... :tq:

I'll keep you guys posted on my progress and hopefully be able to write a procedure here for all to benefit.... Cheers!

I will surely do. Knowing today's plastic casing 'Tech No Logic' it will be tough for any Tom, Dick & Harry to open them up without causing damage. Guess this is a sure way to keep the business alive. Will let you know when I'm done with it.

Eagerly awaiting instructions to start work.... Cheers!...

Ho Ho HO..... while I was out of the country .... bro gpssin took my Nuvi 310... tore it apart ... and replaced the battery... just collected it today... so far so good.... "touch wood".... hee hee belly good man !!! =D>

OK now.... if there is anyone in Singapore who needs to change a Nuvi 3xx series battery, I recommend you contact bro gpssin directly. He is very handy at such stuff. I don't know how much Garmin will charge you for a new batterry (plus workmanship), but I am sure our brother will 'bill you' adequately ... No guarantee hor....

Er bro Moey.... maybe you can become the battery replacement guy in Penang =P~ =P~

He he heh... I have just removed the battery and thanks to Brother gpssin I breeze thru' the dismantling with minimum fuss. The obstacle now is to find the correct battery. It is a 3.7v@1.25Ahr Li-Ion Polymer battery with dimension of 60x38x5mm. Will post my experience once it is done.

Thank you Brother gpssin for all your help with the excellent instructions.... the pictures are most helpful too. Cheers!

Hi brother,

Actually this instructions is passed to me by brother Jaguar. As for the battery I have it but it requires some modifications. The old battery has a regulatory board you need to solder it to the new battery.

If you do not want to modify, I have already ordered some stocks overseas. You will need to wait for about a week.

Cheers !

That's great brother. Li-Ion Polymer battery is hard to find here, you're doing us a big favor. Let me know when your stock arrive. Do you mind if I publish a procedure here at MFM (I'll write my experience working on it just to be sure we don't foul at copy rights issue)? I'll also include the 're-cycling of the battery's smart charger module'. Just one question, does the smart charger module PROM needs resetting? If yes, do you have the serial data?

Thanks n cheers
