Bro, finally found a way to 'recover' this white screen thing. Download the rgn for 2X5w for 1-sec tracklog, flash it, you will still get white screen , nevermind, this is to make your set becoming US set with hwid 0827, then use webupdater to update to version 5.30 reboot and wolah...

The setback, you lost some features, like ecodrive, Chinese inputs. 'boh pian', right? Untill someone has another method, do share, thanks

Bro JJ007 and other members who had not flash successfully, can you share with us your final result? Manage to re-flash the original firmware? Manage to flash successfully in the end? Bricked your Nuvi?

We need your feedback to warn others if necessary. Thanks in advance :)

Posted my bad experience in the 255 thread as a warning to everyone. Except some people didn't take it too kindly.

I have been helping many others who went thru the same bad experience in the background.

Hi Antyong, yes, I think it is worth sharing this experience and as a warning to others. May be the recent batch of 205W have this problem. This is also seen in other forum.

When I follow the instruction to flash with the JCV firmware, I get a 'White Screen' as a result. there is no response to whatsoever to screen press however, USB mode is still available in my case and I can still access to all the folders and files inside the Nuvi. I have tried several cures with no success.

Finally by accident, I flashed with 1-sec track log firmware posted here, still get a white screen but this convert the HWID to 0827 (US version), which in Garmin website there is a newer version of firmware. Via webupdater, I get it flashed (with GUPDATE.GCD I believe), reboot and done.

Now my 205W is ok, however, it is a US set with Nuvi2W version, HWID 0827. hence do not have all the local SgMy firmware features like ecodrive and others. Other than that, the rest of the function is ok. I have tried to load SgMy ver2.70 update with no success so meantime I live with "US edition". May be a RGN version of the SgMy firmware will do the job, but I need help to have one to try

I hope this serve as a guide to warn others and how to at least get the unit back to work again. Do let me know your experience

follow up ...

with some help from bro here, I got a patched SgMy firmware, flashed, it does covert the unit to HWID 0930 (sgMy set), however, when downloading SgMy latest firmware from Garmin.sg, flashed , no success

I guess only a webupdater, or a direct RGN made from the latest firmwar can do the job. (rather than GUPDATE.GCD) ...

Just a check. Is anyone who has successfully converted experiencing track logs missing gps.bin file (only nav.bin and traffic.bin in \Garmin\Logs\xxxxx folders)?

ASAIK, for hwid 0930, the gps.bin will be saved in \debug folder... same as my original 255W localized version... correct me if i'm wrong...

Thanks for the info. Looks like it's different from original 205W localized version where it's in \Garmin\Logs\xxxxx folders.
