I have been trying to get it working too......

HELP !

mitchell wrote:Hi ... I had my M20 for a couple of days already and love it for its size and its a compromise to the G60 size & performance.

Would a kind soul be willing to provide a detailed guide on how can I upload a MFM map and Custom POI to my M20? I've been trying for days without any success.

Here's a quick rundown of what I have been doing over the last couple of days.
- I can't use the MapInstall coz it can't detect the phone. (It can detect my Nuvi765 without any problems on USB)
- Tried to copy and paste the gmapsupp.img which I created for my Nuvi765 (working well in my Nuvi) but the files would not be recognized by the phone.
- Tried fiddling with the GarminDevice.xml file (I suspect it may have something to do with the map not being recognised) inside the phone to no avail.

Thanks in advance ... :D

There are software updates for the G60 at the Garmin-Asus 'Support' website:

1. nuvifone Sync Agent -North America: Version 3.00 [13MB]
2. G60 firmware and modem update [104MB]
[20090820] nuvifone G60 firmware and modem update
    Updating version as below:
    Firmware Version: 2.26
    Modem Version: 2.21.1-8-4 EU
    Improvements:
    1. Improve the USB mode when G60 user plug-in USB cable.
    2. Improve the user scenario: In Navi-mode, User takes off G60 from car kit.
    3. Add GPS Data Update (Ephemeris Download) option in Setting> Navigation.
    4. When G60 connects to BT headset, both G60 device and headset will have the ringtone.
    Procedures:
    1. Download updating program Garmin-Asus G60-2.26.exe and Updating Guide.
    2. Refer to updating guide to finish update process.
    Attentions:
This firmware edition is only for Taiwan and Malaysia version.

However, there is none for the M20 from the GarminAsus website:
"Currently, there are no software updates available for the nüvifone M20"

Just to post some interesting developments on my Nuvifone M20

I still couldn't find a way to update the maps on my M20 and I posted questions to Garmin for some assistance on how to update my maps. (Especially how to use MFM maps) :) In my communication with them, I voiced my frustrations of the lack of support and guide on how to update the maps. (and the inability to load custom POIs that's available on MFM)

I finally got a reply from them and they mentioned ... in their actual words ...

"Garmin map source for other Garmin navigator can’t be used on M20. That is because M20 is different from navigators, can’t use old Garmin map source. The only official way is to purchase map sources from GA website or use the latest Garmin map format, currently their cant found at any website yet."

Obviously, I'm not very happy with the answer coz what are they thinking when their customers buy a Garmin product?

Just to ask the folks here if what they claim is true that (from what I understand) there's another version of MapSource (Something other than the 6.15.6 that is available on Garmin's website) that is used exclusively only to Garmin?
If that's true then I believe that people will shun away from the M20. This is the first time I heard that a Garmin product requires exclusive use of Garmin maps. Not to mention the use of a "top secret" MapSource. (Sorry if I'm wrong about this)

Hope to get some feedback from the folks here. (I wish I bought that G60 instead ... sigh)

ฺBro.mitchell

Today I just have few minute with M20(Thailand version) with my notebook ,search for map where are Map storge.
and finally cound found they are Hidden in StorageCard\!System\Garmin, in normal way we cound not found !\system folder
because in are Hidden folder to see this folder you need to set you windows to "show Hidden files and folder" and connect
M20 in storage mode.

Thanks Bro yingyong for the heads up ...

I think what you meant in Mass Storage Mode would be Path:\System right ?
In ActiveSync mode it will be the equivalent of Computer\Nüvifone M20\My Storage\System

I found that folder and loaded the gmapsupp.img but it did not work. Are you successful in making the phone (M20) identify MFM maps ? Let me know ya if you are successful coz I'm still trying unsuccessfully.

nuvifone G60

Postby zamad » Sun Sep 27, 2009 1:36 pm

Using the nuvifone G60 with the mfm 090914 map, the 'fuel station' icons do not appear while navigating or under simulation mode. These icons, however, are visible when 'searching' or panning the map. My route from Puchong to Giant Kinrara passes at least 4 fuel stations, but none were displayed. I'm not using the latest 090921 map because it freezes when using the 'call' function.

One cool feature I like about the G60 is that if you want to make a phone call (or receive one) while navigating, and it is in its cradle, it'll automatically go into 'hands-free / speaker' mode. You don't actually have to dismount it from the cradle. Once the call has ended, you need to press 'back' to return to the navigation screen, although the voice prompts already runs in the background.

Also, if you remove the G60 from it's cradle, not only does it prompt you whether you want to switch to 'Pedestrian Mode' (where you can preselect either 'shortest route' or 'off-road'), it'll automatically log the position where you dismounted your G60. This is helpful if you park your car in a large car park, and can't remember where exactly you parked it earlier.

As I've not yet received a reply from Garmin-Asus (Taiwan), I've not yet updated with the latest firmware [20090820].
