After all review and write up read about Nuviphone, I would not buy it. Not this release anyway. Garmin are protective of this one and they intend to make money from the maps.

They will not allow MFM or other to be use easily or flawlessly. Garmin are giving us Nuvi, GMPC and GMXT (easily pirated) for only one reason.., to make people dependent on their system and beat the competitor.

Microsoft have done it,, Garmin just another player.

I am very glad to see MFM support papago and now few other pnd.

Just to stay on the leading edge of tech by using these phone,, IMHO is not worth it.

I did a voice replacement on the G60, replacing the original English_american with the 'sexy' English voice that is on my 205W. While it works, some of the sentences were truncated. In one of the prompts it said something like "Exit left in (silent) kilometers".

Splitting and comparing the voices using Garmin Voice Utility v1.0.0.0 by Ash, both voices were broken into 119 files and they are similar, including sampling rate, except for file size and duration. The original which came with the G60 was smaller.

Thanks Bro yingyong for the heads up ...

I think what you meant in Mass Storage Mode would be Path:\System right ?
In ActiveSync mode it will be the equivalent of Computer\Nüvifone M20\My Storage\System

I found that folder and loaded the gmapsupp.img but it did not work. Are you successful in making the phone (M20) identify MFM maps ? Let me know ya if you are successful coz I'm still trying unsuccessfully.

Hi mitchell
Sorry to late reply because I'm wait for my friend to check and reply.

Thanks Bro yingyong :good:

Your tip worked beautifully and finally I was able to load MFM maps into my M20. :peace:
Just to add ...

1. I am using MapSource 6.15.6
2. (In Mass Storage Mode) Under Utilities -> Get Unit ID, MapSource was able to detect the phone but could not detect the device if you try to send the map via Transfer -> Send to device.
3. I created the folders manually replicating the folders as illustrated and merely copied Gmapsupp.img into the Map folder and it worked!
4. In ActiveSync mode, MapSource could not detect the phone.

Mod, I'd recommend pasting this guide up in the main area and I'm sure it'll make a lot of M20 users happy. (Not to mention avoid losing sleep and hair over the mystery of loading maps into the M20)

Thanks again Bro yingyong and to your friend who helped in bringing light to the M20 mystery!

Hello all, this is my first post here, but have been following the development of Nuvifone M20. I'm new to Garmin and PND in general and need a bit of help with adding maps.

I purchased a Nuvifone M20 in Taiwan a few weeks ago but cannot figure out how to add additional maps into M20. I can connect the M20 to my computer and figure out that the map that came with the phone is stored in the System folder as there are several files called gmapprom (including gmapprom.img & gmapprom1.img) in that folder among other files.

I would like to add the Europe map into my M20. I have the unlocked Garmin City Navigator NT Europe map as a file. Do I simply copy that file into the System folder? What about the file name? Is there any settings I need to change or will M20 automatically know to use the Europe map once I'm in Europe?

Would love to have multiple maps in my M20. I'm sorry for so many questions, but would be grateful for any advice. Thank you!

Hi Zamad,

Are you satisfy and happy with the G60 now? After sometime of usage, any further complain or complement? Wanted to get one, currently looking for some good advise, before spending such money....
Thanks

I'm quite happy with the G60 actually. The only gripe I have is that only standard POIs are visible during navigation. That makes it difficult to know whether a POI has already been captured or not. When viewing the map, all POIs are visible. I think I can live with that. No... I have to live with that until a solution is found. Satellite acquisition is fast too. The 3.2M camera is geo-tagged enabled too. Besides storing the location, it has a datestamp too.

On the PIM, selecting 'Contacts' gives you an option to Call, send an SMS or Go To that address. So your POIs can actually be in your Favorite list or in your Contacts. Sending your location via sms lets the reciepient auto open their GMXT-enabled phone and see where you are, and vice-versa. Turning it to landscape orientation for writing SMS's gives you full QWERTY keyboard instead of the portrait ABCDE layout.

About the phone, the only thing I miss about the phone is not being able to send vcards. I don't care much about the about the absence of MMS or Video. Why mms when e-mail is available! I also like the auto hands-free/speaker mode when answering calls.... no need to plug my ear with BT receiver!

So, if you ask whether I'd do it again... yes, I would! My BH is hinting that she'd love to get one too...
