Any way, this is what I did:

1. rename the voice folder to something else, eg. _voice_
2. Use winrar to extract GUPDATE.GCD to the garmin folder of the unit
3. reboot and the unit will update itself to 2.80
4. rename the _voice_ folder back to voice.

That's all.

Sorry you lost me there. I am not that familar with the files. Mine is a converted MY/SG set (S3 board) from US set. Converted using the tutorial posted here. Now seem to have a HWID of 0930.

Thus:

1) Where do I get the GUPDATE.GCD file from?
2) Can I use the nuvi255W_SG_v280.exe downloaded from the Garmin Singapore Website?

Thanks to advise...sorry for all this question

Sorry Bro...you mean to use the nuvi255W_SG_v280.exe file. As I do not see the GUPDATE.GCD file anywhere. only the exe file.

Open the exe file with winrar and you'll see the GUPDATE.GCD file.

Am i right to say that before we run any SG local firmware update using GUPDATE.GCD for the US converted sets, instead of deleting, we can just rename the voice and text file folders to something else.

So after that, power on and let the Unit update itself. After the update, connect back to your comp and rename back the 2 folders to get back ur voice and text?

Yes, you're right. As a note, any pre-S4 unit that is converted to SG/MY firmware using Earthkeeper's instructions
becomes a SG/MY set. You can update to new firmware versions just like a local set. You don't have to update the way I
do. Follow the update instructions by deleting the 3 TTS voices, then run nuvi255W_SG_v280.exe. It will work as well.

So it seems that Garmin has fixed the incompatibility between the earlier local firmware and the TTS voice files in the new 2.8 firmware release.

How bout a S4 unit? Does it become a SG/MY set?
And how to revert back to US firmware (pre-S4 and S4 unit)? Is there a guide for this?

Thanks.
