Hi All,

Something to add on. There is additional feature for 1370t on recognising the map name (such as gmapsupp.img, gmapprom.img and gmapprom1.img). In fact, you can actually rename the .img map to the name you prefer.

Like me, I rename MFM map to MFM.img and the device can recognise it without any problem.

Its really a fantastic features.

Thanks.

NUVI 1370T (Taiwan Map Pre-Installed) PROBLEMS

Postby mrms » Wed Oct 21, 2009 11:28 pm

Dear My Friends,

I am a newbie. I have the Taiwan version Nuvi 1370T (imported model) with is not filled with the usual MYSG type system/map of Gamin, but I have MFW version 1.65 currently in my new Nuvi bought at Low Yatt KL. I tried to download the map from MFW ,. but when I tried to unzip it, it gives me the "cannot read ISO images....bla bla of that sort". Do anyone knows why this is ? Because it cannot generate the ISO images etc, i do not get the .IMG file therefore could not upload to my GARMIN folder. My hp number is 012-3147911 just in case someone wants to contact and help me. I can call back if you dont have enough credit on your mobile. I have other problems as well like MAPSOURCE installation and .IMG generation and unzip of .exe maps from MFM etc. etc. etc. I have read all the posts in this website like cover to cover and have tried all tricks and trade, but still futile. Maybe I am not very intelligent though. PLEASE HELP ME !!!

Other Info :
I also have pre-installed Taiwan 6-level Address (v2.04) and City Navigator Taiwan NT v8.65
My softwre version is 3.40
Detailed Maps is 2009, DaYu and Zenrin Co., Ltd
Basemap is WW Autoroute DEM Basemap NR 2.00

Thank you.

Currently I am using a Nuvi 205 and plan to get a second set in Taiwan next month. Earlier I was also considering the 1370T but after reading the operating manual downloaded from Garmin Taiwan, I realised the 1370T only supports 2 system language, American English and Traditional Chinese.

As I have plan to use this future set in China, 1370T is definitely out of questions as it does not asupport simplified Chinese which is a must for China map. Would appreciate if the current 1370T user can confirm whether it is true that this model does not support simplified Chinese.

According to a review I read on another new model Nuvi 1350, this new model seems to support many languages. I am just wondering whether MFM map can be used in this model?

Re: Garmin 1370T ALWAYS AUTO REBOOT

Postby mrms » Sun Nov 22, 2009 12:31 am

Dear Friends,

This new 1370T of mine always have some funny problems. At many times, it hang and of course I believe it is because of the maps and I disable some irrelevant maps, but it still hang lah particularly when it is recalculating .

Secondly and the mosy annoying one is that my GARMIN 1370T ALWAYS reboot itself over and over again. Particularly when we want to click and view the directions in writing. I went to Low Yatt GARMIN original store and asked him why my Taiwan model GARMIN behaves as such and he said it is NORMAL ? Some people even sent their GARMIN back to Taiwan for repair but apparently there is nothing Taiwan ca do anyway. It is the processor limitation they said and even Malaysia or Taiwan garmin cannot do anything about it.

So guys !! do you have this same problem and how to overcome it ? I believe it is NOT the processor problem as much, it must have something to do with the SOFTWARE instead !! Any suggestions ??

Hi mrms,

I did a keyword search in Taiwanese website and it seems that many in Taiwan are complaining about this 1370T. The common problem quoted are (i) offset problem and (ii) auto reboot problem (iii) problem in satellite tracking

If you can read Chinese, pls refer to the url below. There are more 111 users registered their complaints on the 2 problems above. According to what I have read, there is no solution yet, the latest firmware (2.4) also can't solve those problems..

IMHO I believe your problem could be due to a corrupted map file in main memory thus causing your Nuvi to hand in boot up mode ( Logo ).

Try this :
Power up unit while holding your right thumb on the upper, left part of the screen and plug the USB cable which is connected to your computer into the back of your GPS. The unit should boot up and stop at the screen where it goes to data mode.
If you succeed in establishing PC connection, back up all maps in /system and /map. After this delete all the loaded maps. Reboot Nuvi and see if it still hangs. If still hands, then firmware is corrupted. You need to reload firmware via webupdater

If it does not hang, then one of map is corrupted. Perform failure analysis to determine which map is the culprit via the SD card. Load one map at a time to /map directory of SD card. Plug SD card to Nuvi. If hang just remove SD card. That is the corrupted map.
