Sorry folks,
I mean the 1460 screen.

Anyway I manage to solve the problem following this website at http://forums.groundspeak.com/GC/index. ... pic=192468

I did the following :

In my computer I go to "Start" > "Control Panel" > "Administrative Tools" > "Computer Management" > "Disk Management" and there should be a listing for a Drive in the bottom. Right click on this option and then select "Properties". In the header you should see the gps listed (ex. garmin). I recopy mfm into sd card from here and it just work.

I'm so happy to solve it.

Thanks for all the reply.

By the can I able to see the sd card in my garmin 1460 screen?

Thanks again.

Hi Bro JasonLee

Thanks so much for giving such clear guidance. really appreciate it. sorry i overlooked it earlier on.

i just bought my unit on 22/11/2009 and am "frantically" testing it and updating it with latest mfm map so i can give it to my dad on his birthday (coming up soon) as a present. however sad to say i can't even get past the "backup" stage much as put in mfm map!

have anyone encounter the following :

1) I've just copied and backup all the files from my nuvi 1460 into my pc as a system snapshot when it is new and before i fiddle with it. however i'm perplexed as i was not allowed to copy the GPX folder over to my pc. error message was "cannot read files on source disk".

2) where to put MFM's customised POI files or POI folder? As a root director or as a sub-folder under Garmin or sub-folder under GPX folder? as i understand it, GPX folder is where garmin/msm store their customised pois. however for nuvi 1460, the GPX folder contains not a single file with extension gpi or gpx but lots of "gobbledygodook" names aka weird names. are these system files? does any one? i've asked the aeco guy and am waiting for answer will share here.

3) i still cant get the "Recalibrate" to work by pressing on the On/off button longer.

4) does anyone know where is the "proximity" feature and "extra" feature in nuvi 1460? in nvui 255W, the proximity can be found under Tools/Setting and the "extra" can be found under "where to?". the former allows you to set the tone for customised pois alerts (where single or continous) and the latter lets you see and select the various POIs categories.

so much to learn - i wonder how i'm going to summarise this and teach my dad! anyone else bought for their dads and got feedback to share?

thanks :tq:

same product...
in pj digital mall = rm 45
in lowyat got 2 different price = rm 35 and rm 20

Hi bro paukee99

last sunday low yat plaza stall (ground floor besides aeco counter) quoted me Rm20 for nuvi 1460's screen protector. i asked him why won't it be expensive and he said, it's Rm20 no matter what size, that's the price. but he took so long to get it i left without buying.

today, i went to low yat again and this particular staff ran out of stock. two floors up, one counter wanted to sell it to me for RM50! then another stall at the same floor, mobile arena, sold it to me for Rm25.

did you buy yours and how much?

This may be very bad news. Usually, you encounter such errors if one of your files or folders is corrupted which may require you to reformat the internal memory and since you have not backed up your internal memory contents - this may be disastrous. Lets hope it is not the worst case scenario and just a bad connection. Try using a different USB cable and/or a different USB port. In any case, there is nothing important in the GPX folder so you need not worry even if you can't copy it. Are you able to save your Favorites? If you can then there is nothing to worry at all. I usually delete the contents of the GPX folder when I wish to load different favorites using MapSource or POI Loader and the GPS will generate its own current.gpx so there is nothing to worry about.

You can store your custom POI files in a POI folder created at the root directory.

If you mean recalibration of the touch screen, try holding the power switch down while touching the BOTTOM LEFT-HAND CORNER of the screen. You may need to hold the power switch down for 45 seconds or more.

If you mean alerts for Proximity Points, touch Tools/Settings/Scroll Down/Proximity Points (just below Map)/Alerts Change. You can then make sure that Custom POIs is checked then touch the Audio button at the bottom. Then you can choose Single Tone or Continuous Tone.

The Extras can be found when you touch Where To? then scroll down to the bottom. Extras is on the left column below Routes which is below Phone Number which is below Favorites which is below Points of Interest. These features are basically unchanged from the N255W. It is just that the Nuvi 1460 has more options so you really need to explore by scrolling right to the bottom of each menu to see what is available. At Extras, you can see Custom POIs and if you touch it, it will list all the custom POI categories available.

Take time to explore your GPS. There is no harm to touch every possible option.

Hi fellow sifu,

Does anyone knows why traffic icons disappear as soon as you start moving on the road?
It shows when you start the map while stationery.

Thanks

hi jason

thanks for such clear explanation. aah, i must hold down the on/off button and touch the bottom left-corner at the same time - this is something the aeco staff didn't share with me. he said just to hold the on/off button for more than 30secs but i did that and the machine came on and went off without the recaliberate touch screen coming on!

i'm a bit concerned to hear your comment that it is disastrous for the gpx folder to be like that...cos my nuvi 1460 is new and i'm just copying everything over as a backup before i start fiddling with it. this doesn't sound good. hmm, i better call up aeco hq afterwards instead of just waiting for their staff to reply to me.

you're right, i got lots to explore in nuvi 1460. just that i ahve so little time, its' a gift to my dad and i will give it to him this friday and i can only test it after work in the evening. only able to back up files at work, not more than that!

but thanks a lot for your help, appreciate it.

Hi just wanna share here on 1460

1) Proximity Feature / option (that is under Tools/Setting or something like that).

it will come on if you put traffic alert POIs in the system, under a POI folder at same level with Garmin folder. checked with aeco staff and got the answer. Tried it and it works. Which POIs i used? why, MFM customised traffic POIs by bro stratman of course!

2) it seems that the unit can self-recalibrate its touch screen without manual "intervention" hence the dissapearance of that feature.

that;s all for now.

:-)

btw, there's a problem with the latest malsingmaps at www.garmin.com.sg. it refuses to accept proper serial number and gave error message about invalid serial number. have reported it hopefully they resolve it quickly.

have a great weekend.

hi wish to update on this

when i did the above, the proximity function/feature did pop up but the alert never came up. i put the POI folder in the GPX folder and not only the proximity feature/button still remains visible, under Where To/Extras - i can finally read all the mfm's traffic POIs, the way i do for 255W.
