:peace:

Just for though,, during the early days of windows, microsoft have a love-hate relationship with piracy, love because this make window the OS of choice , hate because they loss a bit of money, however Bill Gates is still richer then rich.

Garmin doing the same thing, letting GMXT easily pirated and don't do much to stop it.. this makes Garmin the Navigation (Car Nav) of choice.

Papago should learn something here....

I am testing the China GPS,,, just like the Japs shooting whales for research purposes .. :finga: then maybe I could provide some assistance to those using these PND... its a dirty job but sombody got to do it... :peace:

A bit of history lesson here, since I assume most of you here were born at a time when Microsoft and Windows were already king and assumed that others were copying them. Quite the other way round.

I started playing with PCs in 1980 with Apple IIplus and later with IBM PCs and clones. Then, if my memory serves me correct, the dominant OS was actually Applesoft and Apple DOS for Apple PCs, then the dominant platform. For "PCs", the dominant OS was DR DOS (from Digital Research) and some others. MS DOS only came in later, and was actually one of the compatibles. Microsoft was then a "2 dollar" company. I wished I had bought shares in them back then, if I could.

Even the idea of Windows came from Apple. I think it started with Apple's Lisa PC, just before the Macintosh.

Those were the great days... one 5.25" floppy holds the entire program OS included  The Apple OS was build on BASIC ( Basic All Symbolic Instructional Code ) and was a fun program to write your own programs ....

This was the era of "Fruits" as the clones all had fruit names eg.. Pineapple, Orange, Pear, Peach etc.....

Let me "Hao Lian" a bit...

I started using computers with 8 inch single sided, single density floppy of 128 KILOBYTES each.
The hard disk was a washing machine size Shugart Drive of 10 MB

being a slow learner, I am still a computer idiot...

But China is progressing fast as they follow Japan's footstep, investing heavily in R & D

Research & Duplicate, I mean

(cheap clones do help a country to bring technologies to everyone, MHO)
cheers

Ha ha haaa... everyone is that old... :-$

8" Disk?.... I started with Tapes, Card readers and Coil memories. OS than was Unix, CPM & etc...

Back to China GPS... I saw one that looks so professional that it will shame any branded names. Packed with all kinds of applications you could ever imagine. It is really slow even browsing within its own menus. I believe if the other applications are remove it can perform better... too bad it's not mine otherwise... ...

Hello all :peace: old timers... I guess Pascal was king then,,,,and Unix was the 80's,, just like Linux in the 90's but Microsoft just blew everybody away.... partly thanks to the Pirate that shoot the whales.

Bro... these China GPS are all same,,, you are just playing russian roulette,,, some are good some are bad. The name doesn't make any difference, its just a matter of sticking a sticker.
