Re: how to export tracklog from Garmin Mobile XT?

dvpro wrote:Bro Shawchyn, looks like you're using GMXT in a WinMo device. FYI, this platform of GMXT does not allow GPX export. To transfer Waypoints, Tracks and Routes between device and PC, you need to use Mapsource. You need to connect device to PC via Activesync (not in USB Mass Storage mode). Then only Mapsource will be able to detect GMXT for receiving/sending data. If Mapsource still do not detect GMXT, you need to start GMXT in device first.

TS was looking for a way to receive tracklog from GMXT Windows Mobile to PC. While the above method or similarly connecting as USB Mass Storage can be used to send data from Mapsource, it does not work correctly* for receiving data from device.

* Mapsource will only read GPX from device/data card, and since GMXT WM cannot export GPX, data in GARMIN_WPT.NVM (My Locations items), GARMIN_ATRK.NVM (active tracklog), GARMIN_STRK.NVM (saved tracklogs), etc. will not be transfered to Mapsource.

  silly me forgot that track logs is stored on the phone itself not on the sd card.....

Bro dvpro, just to clarify something here, not sure it is because I have both mapsource and gpmc installed on the same lappy or because of some settings.

At home, I usually update my mapsets and download to back-up my waypoints, routes and track-logs on my netbook. Both GPMC and Mapsource is installed on the netbook. What I do is just to hook up my wm5 pda using usb and when I want to retrieve or send data, mapsource is able to identify the gmxt (both device and sd card) and GPMC. No need to activesync. In fact I don't have activesync installed on my netbook at all.

I will try with my desktop later. Only mapsource installed to see if there is any difference....

If the WM device is in fact connected as USB Mass Storage, I believe the device would not be accessed. Since, there were both device and data card detected, it seems the connection is via synchronization software. And if you're running Vista (or Windows 7, I think), as pointed out by Bro Zeus, the software is known as Windows Mobile Device Center.

You have probably installed the wrong map. If your Papago comes as part of HTC bundle, select "HTC.....". If you have bought Papago X3 for WM, use "Papago X3 for Windows Mobile". Otherwise, you are not using a legitimate copy of Papago.

Change GMXT menu?

Postby tks » Sun Jan 03, 2010 10:50 pm

Anyone knows if there is a way to modify the GMXT software to change the menu display? Currently, Where To? brings up a list of menu choices, but those I want are on page 2.

Currently:
Page 1
1. Home
2. Addresses
3. Food, Hotels...
4. Contacts
5. My Locations
Page 2
1. My Locations
2. Recent Finds
3. Extras
4. Cities
5. Intersections

I want to change to something more logical:
Page 1
1. Home
2. Recent Finds
3. My Locations
4. Food, Hotels...
5. Addresses

What you are asking for involves code change of the original Garmin Mobile XT firmware. This involves Garmin as as this software has been discontinued, will not happen.

About GMXT Voice

Postby sootw » Wed Jan 20, 2010 8:27 pm

Hi, when I use GMXT ver.4 the voice for the distance is "KM". After I have upgraded to ver.5 the voice for the distance has changed to "Mile". Can advise how to change it to "KM" instead of "Mile"?..have go through all features but still no clue to change it.

From my Palm TX running GMXT v5.00.10p: Tools >> Settings >> System. Change those Imperial units to Metric. Hope it works on yours too.
