Re: East Malaysia maps on MFM?

Indrapr's idea of a mapper mapping for both community, while seemingly most ideal, is not practical. MFM exist because of its strong stance against licencing maps and mappers pocketing a % of the proceeds. There will be dispute if a mapper use data and feedback from MFM and then license them through MSM.

May I know how much % of proceed they get from licensing the map? (if that can be reveal here). Just to fill my curiosity...

Purpose MSM license the map, was it for protecting the map or just for taking sum of money from it? Was that money been using to pay for hosting and domain name (like MFM hosting fund) or it was solely received by the mapper itself not the site (MSM) :-k

If the admin/mappers have kept this part of information from the general public it should be respected. I'm sure they are given ample opportunities to voice their opinions in their own forum. Let's move forward and if any mappers/volunteers who want to be part of MFM be given the opportunity to work with us under MFM terms and conditions. Just my 2 cents... cheers!

AFAIK, MSM don't need to pay for hosting. They got their semi-dedicated server package free in return for the Exabytes logo you see at the home page. Domain name is a grand sum of RM50 a year. If they lost their hosting sponsorship, please recommend them our current package at RM1,800 a year. I am sure many of us will donate to their hosting fund too.

Adil had suggested a small % goes back to the mapper but nobody received any % yet. It will interest you which mapper actually posted first to support the % cut idea. Sunnie and I had explicitly declared that our map data is not for licensing. It is difficult for Adil to license anything with the KL portion missing unless he go ahead licensing KL data without our authorization.

Licensing to protect the map? Not sure how money can protect our hobby :-k

Jimmy and I had always questioned the need for money. Read the MSM old forum and GPSMappers.net forum.

p.s. Agree that any query regarding licensing and proceed of MSM map without KL & EPM to be discussed at MSM forum

I would also like to know. "a small % goes back to the mapper but nobody received any % yet" -quoted.

And how Adil is going ahead licensing KL data?

'Licensing to protect the map? Not sure how money can protect our hobby'

With money we can setup a company MFM Sdn Bhd with a RM2.00 paid up capital. When someone sue the company than we can have the money to defend it. Worst case scenario the company goes bust.... the Admins here stay protected to find new avenue to continue to release Free Maps...

But without no money involve... there will be less attraction for a Law Sue ...

My first post in this forum.
I just combined MFM with MSM-Borneo with MapSource for my own use, and running fine in nuvi 755T... Is it OK to do it?

TQ

Of course it is okay. Both maps are from free community. As long as the maps works on your nuvi.
