BANGI: A new speed radar gun will be introduced for Ops Sikap XXI for Chinese New Year from Feb 7 to 21.
The new gun, the LTI20-20 TruCAM, is the most sophisticated speed-enforcement tool of its kind. Police have five of the TruCAM for now.
Federal traffic police chief Senior Asst Comm (II) Datuk Abdul Aziz Yusof, who officially launched Ops Sikap near here yesterday, said the TruCAM was a major improvement to the old DigiCAM used by traffic police since 1995.
Beware speedsters: L/Kpl Noremin Yusop using the new radar gun to catch speeding vehicles during Ops Sikap XXI on the North- South Expressway near the Bangi toll plaza Monday. Highway users who will be enjoying free travel or getting discounts for the coming Chinese New Year should make sure that they do not lose them to speeding fines. The radar gun can detect speeding cars from as far as 1km away. — RAJA FAISAL HISHAN/ The Star
“It weighs only 1.5kg compared to the 40kg DigiCAM, so it is much easier to handle.
“That makes it mobile so my men can use it while in a moving vehicle instead of a static speed trap,” he said.
He added that the camera also simultaneously records video from over a kilometre away, which could be used as evidence.
