Re: Nuvi 255W Part 2
Hi everyone,
Just bought my localized 255w. I checked my software version and it says "SgMy Software Ver. 2.90". GPS SW Version: 3.90b.
However, the official software version for localized 255w is only ver. 2.80. So what is going on? Do I have an unofficial software version?

Don't worry, it's just that the latest firmware is not yet available for an update for models with older firmware.

You can also check your unit's version here: http://www.garmin.com/garmin/cms/site/s ... areUpdate/ (Click "Check your unit's version.")
Unfortunately, I think the site is down these few days. Maybe you can try in a few days time.

In the meantime, you can also verify that unit's serial (usually printed on a label at the bottom) matches the one printed on the retail box, and make sure the Part Number which is printed there reads "010-00718-69".

Tried the software update site. Server is down like you said.
Verified every details you quoted, and everything checked out.
Incidentally, I was viewing "MFM-Garmin Installation Step by Step Guide" thread, and I am wondering what is the pros and cons of creating maps using MFM complier and via mapsource? And btw I have just created my map using MFM's generator and is in the midst of transferring it into my SD card.

One would usually use Mapsource to send maps to device, if he needs to combine with other mapsets in Mapsource, or to select only a few map tiles from a mapset (mainly due to limited memory).

Then in my case where I only wanna use latest MFM map solely (not modifying/adding anything), and installing it to my SD card, would it be suffice to say I'm fine with using MFM generator? It just seems so much easier to use that's all.
