B2Bomber wrote:My unit's a little under a year old. Bought in Singapore. AFAIK, the problem started to manifest itself while I was in Brunei last Feb.

What happened was, it started off with "disconnections" from my laptop while it was connected via USB. It would "disconnect" then sort of reboot. That went on for a couple of days. Until it came to a point where it just disconnected and went on reboot but wasn't able to finish loading anymore. I figured, maybe it was not being charged via my usb port anymore and just went battery flat. Tested it with the usb wall charger, it would boot but it would just go up to the part where it says, "loading maps". I've also tried to reset it (pressing on the lower left while booting), it would get me through the reset screen and dialogs, but after it reboots, it just gets hung up in the "loading maps" part. The progress bar indicator also differs from time to time. The most was about 80% towards booting.

I have also tried leaving it "on charge" (as I can't see whether it's really charging or not since it's frozen) 'coz maybe it's just a flat battery.

During the holy week, after I got approval for local leave while we were on standby for a project here in the Philippines, managed to test it again using the cradle and charger in my car back in the province. Still no luck. It still freezes up to the "loading maps" section.

Anybody got any idea for now? What's happening? Anything. TIA.

Bro B2Bomber, this sounds like your map ( or one of maps ) in MainMemory /garmin or SD card /garmin is corrupted thus explaining the perceptual "loading maps" message. One possible cause is like you said, the charging from your lappy USB port could be faulty and resulted in the Nuvi going flat during a map loading procedure which resulted in map corruption; thus your predicament.

If the corrupted map resides in SD card, you are in luck, just remove the card and delete the corrupted map file. Reload a fresh map and that's it.

If the corrupted map resides in Main Memory, they you are in deep shit if you cannot access the memory to delete the corrupted file.

Suggest you read this link by bro dvpro for a possible solution

NOTE :
We recommend that active map that is updated frequently resides in SD card/garmin so any corruption of map file is easily solved as mentioned above

hmm... if I remember right I have had the latest RG.Ph map loaded, a month earlier, and it worked ok until that "fateful" day. Unfortunately, I don't have the unit with me right now so I can't tell for sure whether I could still see it as a storage device or at the least confirm that my maps ARE in the card. But I think not.

Thanks for the link. Will try to read more about this RGN thing first. I do know I have a backup of my units contents when it was still fresh. Do you think (if I can read it as a storage device) if I copy all these back, will it work the same way as the RGN path? (Sorry, I know the best thing to do is try it myself, but just fishing for possible experiences from others who may have gone this path)

If you had backup all files from "your" Nuvi, it should cure the problem.

Your set will work with the Thailand maps. Just buy the map available in uSD card. :-'

Thanks for prompt reply.

So, I don't need to flash my set with Taiwan or Mal/Sin firmware ? This is the first time I read such a direct way, instead of going through the firmware flashing method.

By the way, I just contacted ESRI Thailand to check whether my device is capable or even adjustable to be able to use Garmin Thailand Streetmap v10.1 EN with Lane assist & JCV, and the lady confirmed it's not possible.

So, may be someone could elaborate on this issue and suggest a solution, with many thanks.

Sorry, I use Thai Maps in my 765 without Lane Assist / JCV, thus my respond.

Another thing, I do not use Garmin Street Maps. I use Rotweiler Maps http://rotweilermaps.com/

If you want to use Garmin Streetmaps WITH JCV + LA, then you will have to localize your Nuvi or buy one there.

That's what I thought.

So, the question is how to localize it or adjust it to show JCV + LA?

Bahathir..

I tried to reply back to you using PM, but everytime I send my reply, it just gets stuck OUTBOX, and I have no clue why..

Your message:
" Mmm... I am not sure whether I can help you or not, because, I never tried Thailand's map before.. So, I cannot comment.

BTW, is the streeview working with US firmware? Now I am using mysg v2.30 firmware, and I am satisfied with it .

TQ.
"

Yes it's working except the JCV. I would like to give it a try using Taiwan Firmware or mysig 2.3 or later firmware (of course at my own risk), however I could not find mysig firmware. Kindly assist me in this process.

Thank you

Hello,

I'm successfully using the v10.1 EN version with JCV, however the JCV shows Thai signs instead of English !! Any clue ?
May be someone could post the right one or advise...

P.S.: I'm using US Nuvi 765T (flashed).
