My two cents worth.

Cheers, Kelvin.

Sick of what, Kelvin? Legal advice not good for MFM? - Antyong

The more this is talk about, the more there is to talk about. Doing the right thing or wrong thing, no one know. I think a framework is being drawn up between all the mappers, based on experiences and common understanding....the difference is MFM is a forum on mapping and is different compared to software applications, etc.

Also, many people can make maps and they can also create their own website to do this. They can also use mapcenter2. BUT, when everyone has a common map, is very difficult to prove anything. Furthermore, MFM does not have a legal representation or entity. This is the main hurdle and will be difficult to enforce.

Most of us cares and value our reputation. Not only we have to do the right thing, we must also be seen to endorse the right actions. So, people who are happy with this forum, will stay with this forum.

The good thing is map get outdated very fast. So, you can steal once but will be very difficult to do it again. When you steal from people and improve on it, other people will steal and improve on it.

Cheers, Kelvin.

I like this =P~
Will definitely try to arrange a meeting with jpatokal :D

I like CC (specifically CC-SA) cause that's compatible with OSM's CC-SA. 8-)

I think this is some pretty good idea to consider. Since there are many Pros in Creative Commons, is there any Cons?

Bump. I met up with Antyong & company half a year ago, everybody seemed keen on moving to Creative Commons, and... nothing has happened.

What's going on? Any concerns, or just laziness :-?

Will be in KL again this weekend (Sun/Mon only) ...

O:) O:) O:)

sometimes, when things get rough, we tend to sit it out, hoping it will then just fade away....... most of the times, acute animosity dies as it ages...... 8-)

maybe the path to a suitable solution has not been explored fully....

jpatokal,

I like the idea of CC but am not totally aware of all of its 'baggage'. It seems good, has good intentions, but for most of us with ignorance on these grounds, we are unsure of the 'fine prints' that is linked to this sort of licensing. Perhaps, this is the roadblocks from getting total support from the community, or even inspiring us all to have the spirit to pursue this sort of licensing.

Perhaps, you may want to consider contributing and championing this cause on behalf of MFM. I think, most of us here are just interested in mapping (as it is our hobby), and probably put less a priority on such licensing needs. They just like to do the fun part of the hobby, so to speak. Maybe you can propose how to get from point A to point B to the mappers here.

Anyway, cheers. Glad to have someone to contribute to ideas to improve/protect MFM.
